Minimalism

Love your stuffs!

For me minimalism is not about having less possessions. It’s about loving the things you have. The moment you have too many things that you don’t even care about them, that’s where minimalism ends.

When buying a new item

Buy from the brands you love or shortlist from top tier brands. It’s not necessary to go for only luxury brands. Good brands show care for their products. Their values are aligned with your values. One advantage of buying from top tier brand is that quality is assured and you get consistency in style. It will be more expensive but if you love it more and it lasts longer, it’s worth it.

The way you get to know each item you own starts with keeping an inventory. Track this information in an excel. Include the item category, item description, and price. Add the purchased date and the number of months or years it has lasted to date, using excel formulas. Set a target for how long the item should last. Scan the receipt and keep a copy of it and note down any warranty details.

When you have a target for how long an item should last, you can compare it against the actual lasted duration. This can help you assess the product’s quality. You can also determine if you really loved the brand and product till the very end.

Care for the item

Take care of the item by cleaning. You should do professional cleaning if it applies eg. For expensive clothes do dry cleaning only. At least do an annual professional cleaning eg. For shoes. Do self cleaning at more frequent intervals.
